The opposition ANO party would win elections to the lower house of parliament with 29 percent voter support, suggests a freshly released poll by the Median agency.

According to the survey, the ruling Civic Democrats would come second with 16.1 percent, followed by Freedom and Direct Democracy with the backing of 12.5 percent of voters.

The Pirate Party, TOP 09 and Civic Democrats would also make it to the lower house, if parliamentary elections were held in July.

By contrast, the Mayors and Independents and Christian Democrats would not reach the five-percent threshold needed to win seats in the Chamber of Deputies, suggests the poll.

Two aircraft from Sweden arrived in Czechia on Friday to help with the firefighting efforts in Bohemian Switzerland. The Air Tractor planes are of a similar type to the Canadair aircraft from Italy that arrived on Wednesday and have now had to be recalled to join firefighting efforts on the Italian peninsula, in the sense that they can both take water directly from the surface. However, each of the Swedish planes can only hold 3,000 litres of water, half of the capacity of the planes from Italy.

The fire in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park has been raging since Sunday. The fire has affected an area of around 1,200 hectares, or five by two kilometres. About 500 people have had to be evacuated so far.

The remaining dead fish that were still floating in the Dyje river in the Břeclav region on Wednesday should be fished out of the water by Thursday evening, the Czech News Agency reports. Dozens of tons of fish were found dead in the river last week due to a lack of oxygen caused by an overabundance of cyanobacteria. Fishermen also blame a power plant on the Novomlýn reservoirs, which halted operations on Sunday morning after a second load of dead fish were found.

By Tuesday evening, fishermen and firefighters had already hauled 40 tons of dead fish out of the river and had managed to clean the section from the Novomlýn reservoirs. Due to the large amount of time that has elapsed since they died, some of the smaller fish are already in an advanced stage of decomposition.

The operating profits of Czech car company Škoda Auto fell during the first six months of this year to 676 million euros from last year's 974 million euros, according to parent company Volkswagen’s earnings report released on Thursday. The loss is attributed to higher production costs, unfavourable exchange rates, and the war in Ukraine.

At the beginning of March, Škoda announced that due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it would suspend production at its Russian plants in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod and stop exporting cars to Russia, although last year Russia was its second largest market.
