Man in Zlín shoots ex-girlfriend then attempts suicide

A 29-year-old man shot his ex-girlfriend on Thursday morning at the regional authority building in Zlín where she worked and then unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide, the Czech News Agency reports. She died on the spot, while her assailant is in hospital with severe brain damage and head injuries under the supervision of police. A spokesperson for the hospital told the Czech News Agency that he is also in danger of losing his life.

The police received reports of the shooting at the so-called Baťa skyscraper where the regional authority is based shortly before 9:30 a.m. The police and emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after.

The 16-storey building remains open to the public, except for the 14th floor where the incident took place.
