An increasing number of Czechs are heading south in caravans or motorhomes to spend the winter in warmer climates, the Czech News Agency reported on Saturday, citing Jan Bordovský, head of the Camping and Caravanning Association.
Most people travel to Spain, Portugal, Greece, or Morocco, where the weather is sunny, around 20 degrees during the day, and mild at night.
Bordovský says the travellers fall mainly into three groups: young families working remotely, recent graduates taking time off between jobs, and retirees — a group that’s expected to grow further.

Around 2,800 shops across Czechia are taking part in the autumn round of the national Food Collection on Saturday. From eight in the morning until six in the evening, people can donate food and hygiene products for those in need — seniors living alone, families in crisis, or the homeless. Donations can also be made through six online shops, where the campaign has already been running since Tuesday.
Last autumn, the collection gathered 684 tonnes of food and goods, about 34 tonnes less than the year before. Organizers say that could be because many people had already donated in September to help flood-hit regions. The Food Collection has been held twice a year since 2019, and overall since 2013.

Delegates also chose Jiří Pospíšil, a former justice minister, as the party’s first deputy chairman. He defeated Vlastimil Válek, who had held the post until now.

The Prague City Council has, for the first time, approved a group of law firms to manage public tenders for the next four years, according to iRozhlas.cz. This marks the city’s first attempt at a more systematic approach that is meant to bring greater transparency. Until now, legal representation in such matters was typically awarded on an ad hoc basis, often without open competition.
Among the chosen firms are Rowan Legal, Řanda Havel Legal, and Havel & Partners, all of which are prominent in the Czech legal market but many of which have faced criticism in the past, some for their connections to influential figures in the public and state sectors.

Archaeologists have found the remains of several prehistoric settlements and over 300 artefacts dating from the Late Stone Age to the Iron Age during excavations ahead of the D55 motorway construction between Kokory and Přerov in eastern Czechia. Notable discoveries include a 7,000-year-old stone axe fragment, a bronze brooch from the 3rd–2nd century BC, and a large clay-extraction site once used for pottery and building materials.
