President Petr Pavel has invited ANO movement leader Andrej Babiš to Prague Castle next Wednesday. They will discuss the proposed program statement of the future government, which ANO is forming together with the SPD movement and Motorists. The president also wants to be informed about the steps Babiš, as a potential prime minister, intends to take regarding the conflict-of-interest law. This was reported on X by the Office of the President of the Republic.

SPD leader Tomio Okamura should not be elected Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, said ODS chairman and outgoing Prime Minister Petr Fiala at the start of the debate ahead of Wednesdays secret vote. According to Fiala, Okamura is a symbol of obstruction, spreading pro-Russian narratives. Fiala also spoke about racism, xenophobia, and chauvinism, and he recalled Okamura’s now-suspended prosecution on suspicion of inciting hatred in connection with last year’s pre-election party posters. He expressed support for Okamura’s rival candidate, Jan Bartošek (KDU-ČSL).

In the first nine months of 2025, police in Czechia began investigating 102 murders, five more than during the same period last year. Overall crime in the country, however, fell slightly year-on-year by the end of September. Last year, police recorded 134,023 criminal offenses; this year, 132,908. This is according to the monthly statistics of the Police Presidium.

During Miloš Zeman’s presidency, the presidential office handled public funds inefficiently and did not act in accordance with legal regulations. A report recently published by the Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ) indicates that the office and its affiliated organizations, among other things, purposefully split contracts and made accounting errors. Law enforcement authorities only gave permission to publish the three-year-old document this October, after prosecutors definitively closed the case involving the presidential office scandals of Chancellor Vratislav Mynář, reported the news site iROZHLAS.cz.

The year-on-year inflation rate in Czechia accelerated to 2.5 percent in October, up from 2.3 percent in September. This comes from a preliminary estimate published on Wednesday by the Czech Statistical Office (CSO). Analysts had expected inflation to remain stable, with some even considering a slight slowdown. On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices in October rose by half a percent, the statisticians reported. The CSO will release the final October inflation figure on Tuesday, November 11. In previous months, statisticians have consistently confirmed their preliminary estimates.

Newly elected members of the Czech Chamber of Deputies are voting on Wednesday to select the speaker and deputy speakers of the lower house. In line with an agreement reached by parties of the emerging coalition Tomio Okamura, leader of the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party, is expected to receive backing for the top post. The house plans to appoint four deputy speakers—one each from ANO, the Motorists, the Civic Democrats (ODS), and the Mayors and Independents (STAN).
At the start of the session, lawmakers paid tribute to the late Cardinal Dominik Duka.

The Czech Republic, along with several other member states, secured a series of concessions in negotiations over the European Union’s 2040 climate target, leading some countries to back the final text. Czech Environment Minister Petr Hladík announced the outcome early Wednesday morning on X. He said that despite the progress, the Czech Republic—consistent with its long-standing position—had voted against the agreement, which is expected to be formally confirmed later today. According to Hladík, one key reason is that the EU executive has not produced impact assessments for individual industrial sectors.

Thirteen people have been charged following Monday’s police raid at the headquarters of the General Health Insurance Company (VZP), prosecutor Miloš Klátik told the Czech News Agency. He also stated that VZP is being treated as the injured party in the case. The group is accused of violating competition rules, money laundering, and bribery. The police operation by the National Centre for Organized Crime (NCOZ) focused on IT contracts awarded by VZP.

Slavia Prague suffered a 0–3 home defeat to heavily favored Arsenal in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League, their second loss in both the competition and the season.
The Czech team have so far collected two points: a 2–2 home draw against Bodø/Glimt, a 0–3 loss away to Inter Milan, and a goalless draw in Bergamo. In the incomplete league-style standings, Slavia currently sit in 30th place.
In the next fixture, Slavia will again play at home — hosting Athletic Bilbao on November 25.
