The Czech Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the measure set out by the Ministry of Health limiting the number of visitors for outdoor and indoor concerts was against the law due to insufficient justification, news site Novinky.cz reported. The case was brought to the court by Ostrava- based promotion agency JVS Group, which organizes large concerts and exhibitions. However, the JVS Group’s lawsuit was only partially successful, as the court ruled that inspections of vaccinations, tests or past illnesses via the ČTečka application was legitimate.

The measure in question was still in force in January of this year, setting a maximum of 1,000 people allowed to attend concerts, sports matches and other similar events. For other public or private events, the limit was 100 people, and in both cases no distinction was made between indoor and outdoor events. The measure did not take into account the characteristics of the premises where the events took place, such as capacity or ventilation options.

The date of the first round of presidential elections will be Friday 13 and Saturday 14 January of next year, Senate chair Miloš Vystrčil announced on Monday. A possible second round of elections may be held on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 January. Current president Miloš Zeman’s term will end on March 8 and he is not allowed to run again.

Mr. Vystrčil wants the election announcement to be published in the Collection of Laws no later than July 1. From then on, the campaign will be official. He had previously considered announcing the election in August, but in order to be fair to all candidates, he decided to call the elections now so everyone would have the same starting point, as some candidates have already announced their candidacy or started campaigning.

The police have shelved one part of an investigation into the Stork’s Nest affair centred on suspected tax evasion by Agrofert companies advertising at the conference centre near Prague, a spokesperson said on Monday.

Detectives began looking into the matter following an investigation into alleged EU subsidy fraud in the construction of Stork’s Nest – a case in which ANO chief and Agrofert founder Andrej Babiš will face trial in September.

They were looking into whether tax had been paid on CZK 280 million worth of Agrofert firm ads at Stork’s Nest in the period 2010 to 2013.

The matter will now be considered by a state prosecutor, who can either accept or overturn the police’s move.
