Czechia plans to continue supplying military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, the country’s prime minister, Petr Fiala, said on Sunday after a ceremony marking the 54th anniversary of the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia.

Mr. Fiala told reporters that Czechia wished to help repair damage to schools, hospitals and other facilities caused by Russia’s war on Ukraine, adding that the country would coordinate such support within its ongoing six-month presidency of the EU.

The Czech leader said Prague was also discussing post-war aid with Ukraine.

The Czech prime minister, Petr Fiala, says that the willingness in Czechia to help Ukraine must continue. He made the comment at an annual ceremony at the Czech Radio building in Prague commemorating the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.

Mr. Fiala said that 54 years ago the Soviets had ended the liberalisation of the Prague Spring period. This year the Russians invaded Ukraine with a view to stripping it of its independence and freedom, he said.

The PM said the annual commemoration at the Czech Radio building had never been so topical as it was this year, with Russian tanks currently rolling over another state.

The minister of the interior, Vít Rakušan, said Russia had imperialistic tendencies, with nothing having changed in that regard since the invasion of Czechoslovakia.

Around half of the regions in Czechia are planning to increase fares on their public transport systems, Czech Television reported. The remaining regional authorities will be forced to increase subsidies for public transport, it said. Some large cities are also planning to raise ticket prices.

Among the regions already planning fare increases are Central Bohemia, Vysočina and Ústi nad Labem. The authorities in Moravia Silesia are also weighing up such a move, while Karlovy Vary Region is undecided.

Prague does not intend to raise fares at present, though running the city’s transport system will cost an extra CZK 1 billion in the next year. Mayor Zdeněk Hřib told Czech Television that the money would have to come out of savings.
