In the first seven months of this year most electricity was generated in Czechia using brown coal, which accounted for 38.4 percent of production. This was followed closely by nuclear power, which was used in the production of 36.7 percent of electricity, according to the website oEnergetice.cz, cited by the Czech News Agency on Thursday.

Gas was used to generate 7.4 of the electricity created, while the next most important source was solar power, with 3.7 percent.

Czechia caused an upset at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Edmonton by beating the United States 4:2 in the quarter finals on Wednesday night. The Americans were strong favourites and had not lost any of their previous games in the competition.

Forward Jiří Kulich notched up one goal and two assists for the Czechs, while goaltender Tomáš Suchánek made 28 saves to help the team into the semi-finals, where they will face Canada on Friday.

The Czech government has decided not file an action at the EU Court of Justice against the European Commission (EC) in response to the EC’s issuing of a EUR 3.2 million fine for Czechia in response to errors that were made in agricultural subsidies, the country’s agriculture minister, Zdeněk Nekula, announced on Tuesday.

Part of the fine is a EUR 30,606 sanction for Andrej Babiš’s conflict of interest, as a Commission audit from 2019 found him to still be able to influence the agricultural holding Agrofert that he once owned while he was prime minister.

Agrofert spokeswoman Lucie Bukovanská reacted to the decision by saying that the company was surprised that the Czech government is willing to sacrifice the interests of Czechia for the sake of agreeing to a sanction on its political opponent worth around 1 percent of the total fine.

One in seven minors over the age of 12 has sent a picture or video of their own private parts to another person, according to a study conducted by the Median agency for internet security firm ESET and the Czech Police. The study also suggests that around 20 percent of the images have been misused in some way or another.

Girls are more likely than boys to send pictures of their naked body or private parts, according to the authors of the study.  Usually this is done to please their partner. Around 15 percent of girls who have sent intimate images said that they did this under pressure or under the influence of mbeing manipulated.

A total of 541 respondents between the ages of 12 to 17 took part in the study. The findings were compared with the responses of a further 542 respondents aged 18 or over.
