Events mark 54th anniversary of Soviet-led invasion

Events are being held in Czechia on Sunday marking the 54th anniversary of the invasion of Czechoslovakia by Soviet-led Warsaw Pact troops on the night of August 20 to 21, 1968.

A traditional memorial ceremony is being held at the Czech Radio building on Prague’s Vinohradská St., which was the site of some of the most intense violence at the start of what became an occupation lasting over two decades. Among the dignitaries participating is Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

On Sunday afternoon a concert entitled NeverMore68 is taking place at Prague’s Výstaviště that aims to highlight parallels between the events of 1968 and Russia’s war on Ukraine, with Ukrainian artists among the performers.
