Year-on-year inflation appears to have accelerated by several tenths of a percentage point in November, from 15.1 percent in October, according to analysts cited by the ctk news agency. They point out that, as in October, the reported inflation figure will be "reduced" by about two percentage points by the impact of the energy saving tariff. Inflation could thus accelerate once again in January when it will no longer be in force. The Czech Statics Office should publish the November inflation data on Monday.

The Christmas tree at the entrance to the European Parliament building in Brussels was felled in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and is decorated with blown glass ornaments made in the Koulier glassworks in the Chrudim region. The Art Nouveau ornaments were made especially for this occasion. Czechia is currently the country which holds the rotating EU presidency, but the organizers said they did not want to present only Czechia’s national colours in Brussels, and opted to accentuate something pan-European. The Art Nouveau period was selected since it is associated with a time of peace and prosperity for the Continent.

Prague sent out a compromise proposal on the parameters of the price caps to the other 26 EU countries on Friday which strives to meet the demands of several dissatisfied countries. Although some diplomats say it is significantly more acceptable than the European Commission's original proposal, its approval by ministers is uncertain. The proposal would need to win support from a qualified majority of member states.

A team of scientists from the BioRescue consortium led by experts from the Dvůr Králové Safari Park have created primordial germ cells from stem cells of the northern white rhinoceros. This has never been achieved in large mammals before and is a big step in the international effort to save the breed. Now the team will need to produce artificial rhino gametes (eggs and sperm) from preserved tissue. If successful, this would boost the availability and genetic diversity of embryos and become a cornerstone for saving the northern white rhinoceros. Experts from the Dvůr Králové Safari Park are spearheading the effort. The last male northern white rhino in the world died in 2018 leaving only two females left to save the species from extinction.
