“Czech made” Christmas tree in Brussels

The Christmas tree at the entrance to the European Parliament building in Brussels was felled in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and is decorated with blown glass ornaments made in the Koulier glassworks in the Chrudim region. The Art Nouveau ornaments were made especially for this occasion. Czechia is currently the country which holds the rotating EU presidency, but the organizers said they did not want to present only Czechia’s national colours in Brussels, and opted to accentuate something pan-European. The Art Nouveau period was selected since it is associated with a time of peace and prosperity for the Continent.
