Protest over planned demolition of army airport near Plzen

Over 200 people gathered on Plzen’s main square on Saturday to protest against the planned demolition of the army airport in Líny near Plzen, after the government offered the site to Volkswagen as a potential location for an electric car battery plant. This is the latest in a series of protests against the airport’s demolition.

The Volkswagen Group announced this week it was postponing its decision on the placement of a factory for electric car batteries in Eastern Europe by several months. Volkswagen was originally expected to announce its decision on where it would build the factory on Friday, December 16.  Czechia is among the locations being considered for the plant which should start producing batteries in 2027.
