A group of hackers is trying to sell information on the dark web which they claims contains internal data belonging to Gordic, a company whose systems support thousands of public agencies including the Czech Ministries of Defence and Interior, news site Aktuálně.cz reported on Tuesday. Gordic says that it has not registered any data leak, but the issue is being investigated by the Czech National Cyber and Information Security Agency.
The hacker group has set up an auction on the dark web for the 52GB of data which they claim contains personal employee data, e-mails, contracts, accounting details and further unspecified content. The asking price for the information has been set to USD 100,000 by the hackers, who promise to deliver the information immediately if the sum is raised to USD 500,000.

The current government measure obliging people to wear respirators in internal spaces is not sufficiently justified, the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) of the Czech Republic ruled on Tuesday. The Ministry of Health has also been “systematically ignoring” the courts decisions until now, according to the verdict.
The ruling will enter into force in three days and it is likely that the Ministry of Health will use this time to react to it and look into providing an official justification for the measure. If this is again deemed insufficient, it would mean that rules such as the obligation for people to wear facemasks inside public transport and metro spaces may become invalid.

Anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International (TI) called for an audit into the financial management of the Office of the President on Tuesday. TI Director Petr Leyer told news site Aktuálně.cz that “a group of people has made the Office of the President into a profitable political-entrepreneurial business” and that Prague Castle contracts are an example of how not to conduct public tenders.
The call comes after the court convicted the director of the Lány Forrest Administration, Miloš Balák, for manipulating tenders worth hundreds of millions of crowns. Mr Balák has since appealed the decision. Lány is the traditional country residence of the president.

The Czech government wants to see the construction of at least one electric car battery factory on its country’s territory, Vice-Premier and Industry and Trade Minister Karel Havlíček said on Tuesday.
According to Mr. Havlíček, Volkswagen, the parent company of Škoda Auto, and the South Korean technology firm LG have expressed interest in developing such a project, which the government says could be finished by 2026 or 2028 at the earliest.
Together with state energy company ČEZ director Daniel Beneš, the industry and trade minister also signed a memorandum on Tuesday which promises to support the planned project. He said that the Prunéřov former coal power station, located in the far north-west of Bohemia, is one of the locations being considered for the project.
According to Daniel Beneš, plans to construct the battery “gigafactory” are connected to the large lithium reserves detected in the Czech Republic several years ago. ČEZ will make a decision on whether to build a lithium mining facility next year. If the plan gets the green light, it would mean that the facility could start operating from 2025.
