Markéta Vondroušová beats Naomi Osaka to advance into Olympics quarterfinals

Czech tennis player Markéta Vondroušová sensationally beat world number 2 Naomi Osaka in two sets 6:1 and 6:4 and has advanced into the tennis semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympic games. Vondroušová was down 0:2 against Osaka in the second set, but managed to turn the game around and eventually win.

The 22-year-old tennis player is the last Czech in the singles tennis segment of the Olympics. Rolland Garros winner Barbora Krejčíková, Karolína Plíšková, Petra Kvitová and Tomáš Macháč have all been knocked out.

However, Vondroušová and her partner Karolína Plíšková lost later on Tuesday in the second round of the doubles to Brazil's Lucrezia Stefanini and Laura Pigossi. The other Czech doubles pair made up of Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková beat Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo and Paula Dabosa, advancing into round three.
