    Pilsner Urquell, the largest Czech beer producer, will be raising the price of most of its products by an average of 5.7 percent from 1 October, the Czech News Agency reports. The biggest increase will be seen in the price of packaged beers, which will increase by an average of CZK 1.5 per half litre. Draught beer will increase by an average of CZK 1 per half litre.

    According to Zdeněk Kovář, a spokesperson for the brewery, the reasons for the price hike are the ever increasing costs of energy, packaging, and transport. He told the Czech News Agency that the price increase is still lower than the current rate of inflation.

    Yet more Czech banks experienced outages of their websites, internet and mobile banking on Thursday, with Raiffeisenbank and Moneta Money Bank both announcing the problem on social media. The Prague Stock Exchange website is also still experiencing problems after Wednesday's cyberattack.

    In addition to the Prague Stock Exchange, five different Czech banks were also hit by cyberattacks on Wednesday. Czech Television reports that the attacks were orchestrated by Russian hackers.

    The average price of a half-litre of 12-degree beer in restaurants and pubs in Prague in July was CZK 64, compared to CZK 59 a year earlier, representing a rise of 9 percent, the national Association of Small and Medium Enterprises said, referring to data from a cash register systems operator. A planned change in the VAT bracket of beer could mean it will cost on average more than CZK 70 a half-litre next year, the association said. Across the whole of Czechia the average price in July was CZK 54, compared to CZK 50 12 months earlier.

    Seventeen-year-old Jakub Menšík has reached the third round of tennis’s US Open in New York. Making his Grand Slam debut, the Czech continued to make a splash with a 3-6 6-2 7-6 6-3 defeat of France’s Titouan Droguet on Thursday.

    Jiří Veselý, who is 30, beat the odds at Flushing Meadows by dumping out 20th seed Francisco Cerúndol of Argentina 7-6 6-2 3-6 2-6 7-6. French Open finalist Karolína Muchová overcame Poland’s Magdalena Frech 6-3 6-3.

    Meanwhile Petra Kvitová, seeded 11th, is out. She lost 5-7 6-7 to Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

    The Czech government plans to create a new legal category, "psychomodulating substances", that will allow for the regulated sale of CBD and kratom, the minister of regional development, Ivan Bartoš, told reporters on Wednesday.

    Mr. Bartoš said that present sales of such substances online or via vending machines were not subject to regulation, adding that even children could buy them, the news site Novinky.cz reported.

    Under the government’s new rules, such substances will only be sold to the over 18s and the advertising of them will be prohibited. National anti-drug coordinator Jindřich Voboril said that the legislation could come into force next year.

    CBD comes from cannabis plants while kratom is the herbal leaf of an evergreen tree with opioid properties.

    the granting of visas to Russian and Belarusian footballers from the Kazakh club FC Tobol for a game against Viktoria Plzeň on Thursday comes in response to similar decisions by other countries, Czech ministers said on Wednesday.

    What’s more, they said, the players are not representing their countries in the match, which is a playoff for promotion to the European Conference League.

    Minister for Regional Development Ivan Bartoš told reporters that a ban on appearances by athletes from Russia and Belarus in Czechia was a sanction on those states and was not intended to harm this country.

    A number of Czech banks experienced outages of their internet banking or their websites on Wednesday. Komerční banka, Česká spořitelna, ČSOB, Air Bank and Fio banka all reported problems, the Czech News Agency said.

    A spokesperson for the Czech Banking Association said the banks had been the victim of cyber attacks. A representative of Česká spořitelna told the news site iRozhlas.cz that it had been hit by distributed denial of service, or DDoS, attacks.

    The Czech ambassador to Washington says the US today regards Czechia and Poland as its biggest partners in Central Europe, mainly thanks to the countries’ support for Ukraine. Miloslav Stašek made the comment in an interview for the Czech News Agency published on Wednesday.

    Mr. Stašek said Czechia’s credit in the US had risen enormously and that the country had put itself on the Americans’ geopolitical map.

    The diplomat said Czechia merited having its leader received at the White House but that the date of a long-planned visit to Washington by PM Petr Fiala had not yet been set.

    A number of major companies in Czechia are set to call on Prime Minister Petr Fiala to push for marriage equality legislation, Seznam Zprávy reported. Vodafone, Microsoft, Danone, Ikea and the bank ČSOB are among dozens of firms who plan to make the appeal to Mr. Fiala next week, the news site said.

    Vodafone boss Petr Dvořák said supporting LGBTQ+ people was a human rights issue and that unequal legislation had an economic impact.

    Mr. Fiala has in the past said that marriage should only be between a man and a woman and that nobody could convince him people of the same gender could create a marriage or family equal to a "natural" one.
