The European Parliament has approved a resolution criticizing Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš‘ potential conflict of interest and urging the country to take corrective measures.

The resolution, passed by 520 votes to 53, with 101 abstentions, says it is inadmissible for the Czech prime minister to partake in decisions on EU funds, while continuing to exert control over the multi-billion crown Agrofert conglomerate he founded, despite having placed it into trust funds.

It concludes that the only solution is for the prime minister to sell his business interests, stop receiving any public subsidies including EU funds, or step down from office.

The resolution calls on the European Commission to show zero tolerance for conflicts of interest and on the Czech authorities to create systemic changes to protect EU funds against misuse.
