    The involvement of Czech fathers in raising children has increased over the past decade, suggests a survey carried out by the agency Nielsen Admosphere, published by Czech Radio’s iRozhlas on Sunday.

    According to the survey, some 17 percent of fathers place their career over their family, compared to 34 percent in 2010.

    Some 70 percent of respondents said they had enough free time to spend with their children.

    Roughly one quarter of respondents said they would consider taking parental leave if they earned less money than their partner.

    Persistent rain continues to swell rivers in some parts of the Czech Republic. Flood alert is in place in villages and towns in the mountain regions of north Bohemia, in the Chrudim region in the east of the country and in some parts of Moravia-Silesia.

    Fire-officers have responded to hundreds of calls in the past two days, pumping rainwater from cellars, removing fallen trees and placing bags of sand along the embankments.

    The number of COVID 19 cases registered in the Czech Republic on Saturday reached 42. It was a significant drop on the previous two days, when the figure exceeded one hundred.

    The number of tests carried out on Saturday was 1,543, considerably less than during the weekdays.

    The number of cases detected since the start of the epidemic is 10,448. 336 people have died of the infection or related complications, and 7,477 have recovered. Currently, 2,635 people are fighting the disease.

    Singer songwriter Vladimír Mišík was the big winner at the annual Anděl music awards on Saturdaynight. The Czech music legend, who turned 72 this year, took the prizes in six categories, including the best male singer of the year.

    His LP Jednou tě potkám or I’ll meet you one day was voted the best abum of the year. He also won the awards for best song and best video for Jednou, and prizes in the rock and folk categories.

    Leading music critic Jiří Černý has been inducted in the hall of fame. The female singer of the year award went to Beata Hlavenková.

    The Anděl awards are decided by the members of the Czech Academy of Music and are a local equivalent of the Grammys. This year, the awards ceremony took place without the public due to restrictions related to the coronavirus outbreak.

    The European Parliament resolution tries to influence audit proceedings in the European Union, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš told the Czech News Agency on Saturday in reaction to the resolution on his possible conflict of interest passed on Friday night. He also said the European Parliament exerts political and media pressure on Czech judicial system.

    Mr Babiš accused Czech MEPs of being behind the resolution and doing their utmost to harm the Czech Republic. According to him, the European Parliament interfered with internal Czech affairs on which independent and nonpolitical bodies are deciding.

    Some 250 veteran Vespa scooters rode through the Czech capital on Saturday. The ride, organised by the Vespa Club Prague, started in Prague’s Holešovice district and continued across the Letná plain to the district of Žižkov.

    The annual tenth PragoVespa event, which traditionally takes place in June and attracts participants from all over the world, has been postponed until next year due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

    Tomáš Král has been unanimously re-elected as President of the Czech Ice Hockey Association. The President of Czech ice hockey team HC Plzeň, who is 65, has served in the position since 2008, when he took over from Vratislav Kulhánek.

    Czech ice hockey and NHL legend Jaromír Jágr, who owns the Kladno Knights hockey club, was elected as member of the association’s executive committee.

    The Czech Hydro-Meteorological Institute has warned against heavy rains in the Krkonoše and Jizera mountains in the north of the country on Saturday. In the region of Frýdlant, precipitation could reach up to 80 millilitres by Sunday noon. Flood alert has also been declared for the region of Chrudim, in eastern Bohemia.

    Persistent rain has already swollen rivers in many parts of the country. The highest, third-degree flood alert is in place in towns and villages along the Smědava and Řasnice rivers in the region of Frýdlant, which have experienced flash floods in the past.
