Štramberk named Historic Town of Year

The town of Štramberk, located in Moravia and Silesia, has been named the Czech Republic’s Historic Town of the Year 2019.

The prize, which is awarded for exemplary care of historical landmarks, comes with a cash award of one million crowns.

The picturesque town, located at the foot of the Beskydy mountains, is best known for the production of a gingerbread pastry called "Štramberské uši".

It is also the site of the Šipka Cave, famous for the skeletal remains of a Neanderthal man, the precursor of Homo Sapiens.
