The Ministry of Health has lowered the age limit for free colonoscopies by five years to age 50 in a bid to get more people to undergo preventative checks for colon cancer, ČT24 reports.
Czech insurance companies currently invite a million people a year to get preventive screening via letters. Only about 15 percent undergo the examination.
Over 7,000 cases of colon cancer are reported annually in the Czech Republic. In the early stages of the disease, few patients experience any warning signs.

The number of newly identified cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus in the Czech Republic rose by 59 on Sunday and 112 overall during the past weekend, according to Ministry of Health statistics. While the weekend saw a sharp decrease compared to the average daily rise by over 100 cases during the four days prior, it should be noted that fewer COVID-19 tests are taken during the weekend. In total there have been 13,174 cases of the disease in the Czech Republic, with 352 deaths and 4,575 individuals still fighting the disease, of which 15 are currently in critical condition.
The weekend also saw the districts of Jihlava and Kutná Hora reintroduce certain protective measures as a result of minor outbreaks in their surrounding area. The most serious COVID-19 hostspot remains the area around the town of Karviná in the Moravian-Silesian region.

Miroslav Kalousek of the TOP 09 party, who is one of the best known politicians in the Czech Republic and known for his repeated clashes with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, will not run in the upcoming 2021 elections into the Chamber of Deputies, he said on Czech Television on Sunday.
Mr Kalousek subsequently told news site iDnes.cz that this does not mean he will be retreating from politics altogether, or that he will leave his current party. Instead, he wants to focus on talking to people “on the ground” and try to bring about a joint approach by traditional political parties, Mr Kalousek said.
Mirolsav Kalousek has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies since 1998 and was finance minister from 2007 to 2008 and then again from 2010 to 2013. -

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš’s ANO party retained its polling dominance in June placing first with a hypothetical 32 percent percent of the vote according to a newly released poll by the Kantar CZ agency conducted for Czech Television. The opposition Pirate Party placed second with 18 percent of the vote, a 7 percent increase compared to the previous month. They are followed by the Civic Democrats in third place with 13 percent.
The top three are far ahead of the other parties that have a chance of breaching the 5 percent voting threshold to get into the Chamber of Deputies. The Mayors and Independents would receive 6 percent of the vote, followed by the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, TOP 09 and the Freedom and Direct Democracy Party who all polled at 5.5 percent. The coalition Social Democrats received 5 percent.
The only party currently in the Czech lower-house not to poll at 5 percent or more were the Christian Democrats, who would receive 4.5 percent of the vote according to Kantar.cz. The right-wing Tricolour party increased its polling slightly to reach 3 percent of the hypothetical vote. -

The Czech Republic could soon switch its travel designation for Bulgaria to medium-risk for COVID-19, news site Lidovky.cz wrote on Sunday, citing an interview with Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček. The country is currently listed as low-risk by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but has lately seen a sharp increase in positive COVID-19 cases.
Earlier this weekend the Czech Health Ministry changed its classification for Serbia and Montenegro to high-risk for the same reasons. Asked by news site Seznam.cz, Health Minister Adam Vojtěch said the number of Czechs returning from holidays abroad and subsequently testing positive for coronavirus is only in the single digit numbers. -

The placement of Montenegro on the list of states with a high-risk of coronavirus by the ministry of health will impact hundreds of Czechs, Jan Papež, the deputy head of the Association of Travel Agencies told the Czech News Agency on Saturday. However, travel to the country, which will now require Czechs to undergo a COVID-19 test or quarantine themselves for two weeks after they return, will still be offered by travel agencies, he said.
Mr Papež said he was surprised by the move to place Montenegro on the high-risk list, because Montenegro is considered a safe travel destination. He expects the placement of Serbia on the list will have less of an impact, as it is not such a popular summer travel destination.
