Deputies from the Pirate Party, Christian Democratic Party, TOP 09 and Mayors and Independents have called on Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to support the European Commission’s 750 billion euro recovery plan at the upcoming EU summit next week.
According to the deputies, the Czech Republic will benefit in the long term from the recovery of other economies, since most of the country’s exports are destined for European markets.
The Czech Prime Minister has repeatedly criticised the fund as being overly generous to some states and disagrees with the criteria according to which the aid would be allocated.

Slavia Prague trainer Jindřich Trpišovský says he is relieved the final part of the Czech top flight football season was successfully played out and his players received the league title on Wednesday evening, after a goalless draw with Sparta Prague.
If the league had not been completed, no champion would have been declared, despite Slavia’s significant points lead when the Covid-19 lockdown halted games for months. Mr. Trpišovský said there had been a lot of speculation that the season would be abandoned at that time.

The Czech lower house has approved a budget deficit of CZK 500 billion for 2020, which is the highest gap on record. It is the third time MPs have voted to increase the budget deficit since the start of the coronavirus crisis. The original figure envisaged by the state was CZK 40 billion. Later votes raised that sum to CZK 200 billion and then CZK 300 billion.
Prior to Wednesday’s vote the minister of finance, Alena Schillerová, said she hoped it would be the last such move this year.

The press secretary of Vladimir Putin has described Czech-Russian relations as “muddy” at present, the Czech News Agency said, quoting Interfax. Dmitry Peskov said the Russian government had no plans for high-level contact with the Czech Republic in the near future.
These comments come after the arrest in Moscow of former journalist Ivan Safronov. His lawyers say he has been accused of treason over alleged links to the Czech intelligence service.
Interfax also referred to a recent situation in which Prague politicians, believed to face a Russian threat, were given police protection. In addition the Czech government expelled two Russian diplomats, a move that was reciprocated by the Kremlin.

Former deputy health minister Roman Prymula has objected to an assertion from Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, who said the decisions related to Covid-19 restrictions were made by epidemiologists and only approved by the government. Mr. Babiš made the comment in connection with the Karviná area, which has been hit by an outbreak of the infection.
Mr. Prymula told the website Reflex that experts only made suggestions but that finally responsibility lay with the government. He said if the cabinet was not happy with the work of senior epidemiologists they could remove or ignore them.
The prime minister said in a public address in March that he was personally responsible for all crisis measures.

Finance Minister Alena Schillerová had wanted to abolish it from 2022.
The real estate acquisition tax rate, which replaced the earlier transfer tax, is 4 percent and is paid by the buyer. In recent years it has generated around CZK 13 billion for the state annually.
