As of Monday, the state-owned hard coal mining group OKD will be preparing to resume operation of its coal mines, which were closed down forsix weeks due to the spread of coronavirus infection among the miners. The infection was first registered at the mines in mid-May.
According to the company’s spokesperson, more than 800 employees, who tested positive for Covid-19, have already returned to work.In order to avoid a new wave of contamination, the company will set up four Covid-19 testing centres and employees will be tested every two weeks.

An exhibition by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes marking the 70th anniversary of the nation-wide crackdown on Czechoslovakia’s religious orders got underway in the Želiv Monastery on Sunday.
The notorious operations known as Operation K and Operation Ř saw the mass incarceration of monks and nuns and a massive seizure of church property and historical artefacts. The exhibition was launched by a mass celebrated by Cardinal Dominik Duka.
The Monastery in Želiv in the Vysočina region was turned into an internment camp in the 1950s. Among the people who were interned there was Cardinal František Tomášek and Archbishop Karel Otčenášek.

A heat warning is in place for most parts of the Czech Republic on Sunday, when temperatures are likely to reach 34 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists have advised people to increase their intake of liquids and stay out of the sun as much as possible. They have also warned people not to leave children or pets in their cars even for short periods of time.
In the upcoming week, temperatures will remain close to 30 degrees Celsius, with a slight cool-down towards the weekend. The warm weather is expected to last until the end of the summer holidays.

Saturday saw 175 freshly detected cases of Covid-19 in the Czech Republic, the lowest figure this week, according to Czech Health Ministry statistics.
The number of current detected cases is 5,081. The total number of known cases of the virus since the start of March stood at 18,235 on Sunday morning. To date 389 people have died with Covid-19 and 12,765 have recovered fro the disease.

Police believe an arsonist may be responsible for the fire in an apartment building in the North Moravian town of Bohumín on Saturday, which killed 11 people and left 13 injured.
The fire broke out in an apartment on the 11th-floor of a 13-story building, killing three adults and three children. Another five people jumped out from the 12th floor and died.According to the deputy mayor of Bohumín, a family feud is likely to have been the cause of the fire. One person has been already been detained in connection with the incident.
According to the regional fire squad leader Vladimir Vlček, the fire spread unusually quickly, destroying an entire floor of the high-rise building.

Eleven people were killed in a fire in an apartment building in the North Moravian town of Bohumín on Saturday.
According to the firefighters spokesman, six people, three adults and three children, died in an appartment on the 11th-floor, where the fire broke out.
Another five people died after they were trying to escape from the building by jumping from its windows on the 12th floor.
Two firefighters have reportedly suffered injuries while fighting the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Some 300 supporters of Falun Gong movement marched through the centre of Prague on Saturday to raise awareness of the spiritual practice and protest against the persecution of its followers in China.
A marching band from across Europe headed the parade, leading from Prague Castle to the Old Town Square. The event was organised by the Falun Gong Association of the Czech Republic.

The work of the Czech search and rescue team in Beirut has been interrupted due to security situation in the area, the spokesman for the team, Martin Kavka, told the Czech News Agency on Saturday.
The Lebanese Army has called on all rescue workers to return to their bases and wait for further orders. According to the Czech embassy in Lebanon, the situation could be related to a planned mass demonstration due to take place later in the afternoon.
Czech rescuers have been helping to search for survivors of the devastating blast in the harbour area of Beirut since the early hours of Thursday.
