Opposition leaders have suggested that Adam Vojtěch should have quit sooner as minister of health and blamed the current situation surrounding Covid-19 on the prime minister, Andrej Babiš. Petr Fiala of the Civic Democrats said that Mr. Vojtěch was compromised back in January, when he mocked warnings about the virus, and should have stood down then
Markéta Pekarová Adamová of TOP 09 said the prime minister himself was chiefly responsible for the situation. She said Mr. Babiš had said in March that he would take all political responsibility on himself but had failed to actually do so.
The head of the Christian Democrats, Marian Jurečka, said that he appreciated Mr. Vojtěch’s move but that there was instability at the Ministry of Health for some months.

The Czech minister of health, Adam Vojtěch, has announced that he is stepping down. He revealed his decision at a news conference on Monday morning, saying he had already handed his resignation to the prime minister, Andrej Babiš. Mr. Vojtěch said his move would help create new space for the resolution of the coronavirus crisis.
He told journalists he had come to the Ministry of Health intending to introduce changes but the arrival of Covid-19 had prevented him from completing them.
Mr. Vojtěch, who is 33 and a lawyer by profession, said he would retain his seat in the Chamber of Deputies and focus on the healthcare field.
PM Babiš thanked Mr. Vojtěch, saying he had done incredible work during the first wave of Covid-19 and would have been remembered as the country’s best minister of health if he had not had to devote so much of his energies to the crisis.

The Czech government is set to discuss the issue of stripping people of fraudulently acquired academic titles in connection with an amendment to the law on universities, Czech Television reported. At present people found to have cheated in getting a title can only lose it within a three-year period.
ANO’s minister of education, Robert Plaga, says he could imagine that time limit being extended to five or six years. Kateřina Valachová of junior government party the Social Democrats, who is a former education minister, told Czech TV she could imagine increased sanctions for more serious cases of academic fraud.
The country’s largest university, Charles University in Prague, has rescinded two academic titles in the last four years. It uses anti-plagiarism programmes, which catch cheaters before they get to graduate, rector Tomáš Zima said.
