Prymula predicts up to 8,000 Covid cases daily in CR

The government’s commissioner for research in health sciences, Roman Prymula, says that he expects 6,000 to 8,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 a day in the Czech Republic. Mr. Prymula, an epidemiologist who headed the Central Crisis Staff in the initial period of the coronavirus crisis, made the comments on the TV station Prima on Sunday.

The official also said that reintroducing a state of emergency should be considered. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has previously said that he would not rule out such a move.

Mr. Prymula said he expected schools to close, particularly in Prague.

Over 2,000 new Covid-19 cases a day have been recorded in the Czech Republic in the last four days. It is less than a month since 500 a day were registered for the first time.
