The Czech police have published an online questionnaire where people can report war crimes committed in Ukraine, Czech news daily Deník N reports. The questionnaire is accessible via a link published on the Czech police's Twitter account on Monday. The questionnaire is purely for information-gathering, however, and does not replace the filing of a criminal report.

Part of Bohemian Switzerland, where a forest fire has been raging for the last two weeks, was handed back to the National Park administration by firefighters on Monday morning, the Czech News Agency reports. The fires in the area in question, a short distance from Janov, have already been extinguished.

The head of the fire department, Vladimír Vlček, predicts that the fire in the park as a whole will have been completely extinguished by Friday. The task of the park management will now be to ensure that the fire does not reappear and spread. To this end, there will be round-the-clock patrols checking for fires until at least August 31, a spokesman for the park administration told the Czech News Agency.

President Miloš Zeman vetoed an amendment on Monday to reduce state payments to the healthcare sector this year. The government was hoping to save CZK 14 billion in the state budget with this amendment, but Mr. Zeman has criticised it, saying it will have a negative impact on the quality and availability of healthcare.

Ministers have defended the law, saying that it will not jeopardize care, as public health insurance had a profit of six billion crowns in the first half of this year and account balances of almost 60 billion - much more than was expected in economic forecasts - and that the amendment is set up in such a way that a year-on-year decrease in payments will not be possible. The amendment includes a clause that from 2024, state payments to the healthcare sector should increase in line with inflation and by half of real wage growth.

A coalition majority in the House of Representatives can override a presidential veto, which will likely happen, as Speaker of the Chamber Markéta Pekarová Adamová, Health Ministry spokesperson Ondřej Jakob, and Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura have all stated either to the Czech News Agency or on Twitter.

The state pays insurance premiums from the budget for roughly 5.9 million people, almost 56 percent of the population. These are mostly children, the elderly and the unemployed. These payments make up approximately a quarter of public health insurance revenues while more than half goes towards hospital care.

Just like on Saturday, Czechia did not issue any temporary protection visas to Ukrainian refugees on Sunday for the second day in a row, making it the first weekend since the Russian invasion began in February that no visas were issued. The number of visas issued on weekends had already been relatively low in recent weeks; for example, last Sunday, only 11 Ukrainians received temporary protection. However, Saturday was the first day that Czechia did not issue a single temporary protection visa since the start of the conflict.

A total of 407,528 refugees have been granted temporary protection in Czechia so far, although according to a statement by Interior Minister Vít Rakušan at the end of July, data from school enrollments show that there are fewer than 300,000 Ukrainians remaining in the country. Many have returned to Ukraine or left for other destinations. Temporary protection visas allow their holders to stay in the Czech Republic for up to a year and gives them access to public health insurance, education, and the labour market.

Despite the wind, there were no new fire outbreaks in the Bohemian Switzerland national park on Saturday and several existing ones were successfully extinguished, a spokesperson for the fire brigade told the Czech News Agency. The firefighters were also able to work more efficiently because the weather got significantly cooler on Saturday as compared to Friday. The area in which firefighters are now tackling the fire stands at less than 390 hectares, down from some 1060 hectares originally affected.

Firefighters have been battling the fire since July 24. There are still around 1,000 firefighters deployed in the region.
