The crown jewels of the Kingdom of Bohemia, one of Czechia’s most prized historical artefacts, are to be displayed to the public from January 17 to 21, 2023, the head of the Office of the President, Vratislav Mynář, announced on Monday. For the first time since 1955, the crown jewels will be displayed in the transept of Saint Vitus Cathedral. The skull of Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of the Czech nation, will be displayed in the Saint Wenceslas Chapel within the cathedral.

The crown jewels are composed of the Saint Wenceslas Crown, which was originally made for Charles IV.’s coronation in the 14th century, the sceptre and the orb, which were added to the crown jewels later.

The Bohemian crown jewels are normally locked away from the public and tend to be exhibited only once every five years. The last time they were shown to the public was in January 2018, the year that marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia.
