Toyen painting sells in auction for over CZK 30 million

A 1967 painting by the Czech surrealist artist Toyen called ‘Mirage’ sold for CZK 31.2 million at an auction in Prague on Sunday. It is the second most expensive painting of Czech post-war art sold at the country’s auction after 1989.

The starting prize of the painting, considered one of Toyen’s most important oils from her post-war period, was CZK 12 million. Her most expensive work sold at a domestic auction is the ‘Circus’, which was auctioned off last year for nearly CZK 80 million.
