    Czech climber Adam Ondra won silver at the Bouldering World Cup in Prague on Saturday, June 3. Like gold winner Korean I To-hjon, Ondra climbed  all four routes in the final, but needed more attempts to do so.  Even so, Ondra said he was happy with the silver medal, saying it was a great start to the season which will culminate with the World Championships in Bern in August.

    The Czech government plans to boost the workforce by recruiting more workers from the Philippines and Mongolia, the ctk news agency reported. The quota for employment cards for people from the Philippines will be increased to 3,000 from the current 2,500 a year, and in Mongolia it will offer work visas to 3,230 people instead of the current 1,230. Due to the war in Ukraine it will simultaneously reduce the quota for Ukrainian workers from the current 38,000 to 33,000.

    The Kramář Villa, the official residence of Czech prime ministers, will open its doors to the public on Saturday June 3. The building now mainly serves to host meetings with diplomats and foreign statesmen. It is named after the first Czechoslovak Prime Minister Karel Kramář who had it built in 1915. The guided tours start at 9am and end at 4pm.

    Czech Post will extend the delivery time for standard mail to three days from the present two, as of July 1. According to the company, this is linked to cost cuts and the steady decline in interest in this service. Express mail will still be delivered within 24 hours. Due to growing competition on the market, Czech Post faces severe financial problems and is currently undergoing a major reorganization which includes closing down 300 of its branches around the country and laying off close to 1,000 employees.

    The real estate for which Russia should start paying rent includes a complex of apartment buildings on Schwaigerova Street in Prague and the buildings of the former Russian consulates in Karlovy Vary and Brno, the ctk news agency reported, citing the Czech Foreign Ministry. Earlier this year the government revoked a number of resolutions from the communist  1970s and 1980s, which gave the former Soviet Union the use of real estate for free  for diplomatic purposes. According to the cabinet, Russia is using the real estate for other than diplomatic purposes and there is no reason to continue to provide it free of charge. The rent demanded will reflect the situation on the real estate market.

    President Petr Pavel met with Prime Minister Petr Fiala and the leader of the strongest opposition party in Parliament, Andrej Babiš, on Friday for consultations on the country’s foreign policy. The main points on their agenda were the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius and the terms of the defence agreement that Czechia recently signed with the United States. Prime Minister Fiala said after the meeting that it had been a constructive dialogue with no significant points of contention. ANO party leader Andrej Babiš likewise expressed satisfaction with the meeting saying he backed the present government’s foreign policy line.

    The head of the Czech lower house of Parliament, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, has called for the 1997 NATO-Russia founding act to be revoked. Signed at a NATO summit in Paris, the founding act was meant to provide the basis for “an enduring and robust partnership between the NATO alliance and Russia”. Pekarová Adamová also expressed support for Ukraine’s admission to NATO, saying that the country was fighting for Western values and contributing to Western security as no other and deserved to be allowed to join the alliance.

    Top climber Adam Ondra advanced to the semi-finals of the Bouldering World Cup in Prague on Friday, beating other competitors such as reigning European champion Nicolai Uznik from Austria and Olympic combined champion Alberto Ginés from Spain, neither of whom reached the semi-finals.

    95 climbers from countries around the world took part in Friday's qualifier. They were divided into two groups, with 10 climbers from each group advancing to the semi-finals. Ondra came in seventh in group A.
