The December shootings at the policlinic of the Faculty Hospital in Ostrava, which made international headlines, were a case of expanded suicide according to investigators, State Prosecutor David Bartoš announced on Wednesday.
The 42-year-old shooter, who killed seven people and injured other, undertook the action believing that he was incurably sick and that doctors were unable to help him. He wanted to kill himself, but not be the only one to die. He therefore chose the most frequented waiting room in the hospital, after planning the act, Mr. Bartoš told journalists.
The police have decided to suspend the case, because the perpetrator is now dead, having shot himself after the attack. However, the investigation into how the shooter aquired his weapon is still ongoing.

The upcoming elections into the Czech Senate will take place on September 30 and October 1, 2020, president Miloš Zeman announced on Tuesday. If a second round of elections will be necessary, the vote will take place on October 7. Voting in special residential facilities, such as care homes, will be possible on October 1, with the subsequent second round taking place on October 8, Castle spokesman Jiří Ovčáček wrote on Twitter.
The upcoming elections will be unique in that they follow a new, recently singed law that introduces special rules to make it possible for people who are in forced quarantine to vote. These individuals will be able to either vote from their car at specially designated “drive-in” voting stations, or vote from home upon requesting a visit from a special voting commission team.

The Ministry of Education has sent an updated version of its manual on how to cope with the risk of the COVID-19 coronavirus, with new information that includes the scrapping of the compulsory face mask wearing rule in favour of a “traffic-light” system, similar to that seen used by countries when foreign travel is concerned. Schools will newly have to order the wearing of face masks when their respective district is highlighted as orange — a state of alertness.
Initially presented last week by Education Minister Robert Plaga, the manual is a document containing rules and recommendations to be used during the upcoming academic year, which starts on September 1.

Either a change of employment or the search for a new job is currently a necessity for two-fifths of the labour force in the Czech Republic. A further 55 percent of workers say they would not shy away from switching jobs if an interesting opportunity came up. The final 5 percent say they do not want to change jobs under any conditions as they are worried they could then lose it in the trial period. The data is the result of a July survey conducted by consulting firm Hays, which questioned 600 people working in the Czech Republic.
Close to a third of respondents said that they do not know whether they will be working at home or at the office after the holiday season is over. Around a quarter said that home office will constitute at least a part of their working week, while 22 percent of respondents said that they will be working in the company office full time.
