    A new app will guide users through the underground of Prague Castle which is mostly inaccessible to the public, the ctk news agency reported. The app covers the five most important archaeological areas of the castle and shows users how they have evolved over the centuries. It was produced by experts from the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Department of Heritage Protection of the Office of the President.

    A travelling open-air exhibition commemorating the renowned Prague writer Franz Kafka is now on display on Prague's Mariánské Square in front of Prague City Hall. The exhibition, featuring texts from Radek Malý's book Franz Kafka: A Man of His and Our Time and brilliant illustrations by Renata Fučíková, was prepared by Czech Centres to mark the centenary of the writer's death. It will remain on show until the end of August.

    The interest in it is so big that the panels which were first produced in four world languages, English, French, German and Spanish, were later also translated into Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Armenian, Serbian, Polish, Greek, Portuguese and Russian.

    Regional Development Minister Ivan Bartoš fom the Pirate Party has apologized for persisting problems with the newly digitized system of construction management which has drawn complaints from civil servants around the country. The problems have significantly slowed the processing of construction permits with experts saying that the resulting losses could amount to billions of crowns and make newly constructed housing more expensive. Minister Bartoš apologised on the X network, but maintained that the change had been necessary and would bring benefits in the long run. Digitization in construction management is expected to reduce the construction permit processes from an average of 5.4 years to 1.25 years.

    Kateřina Siniaková and Tomáš Macháč won gold in the mixed doubles at the Paris Olympics on Friday, securing Czechia’s first gold medal in the games. They beat China’s Zhang Zhizhen and Wang Xinyu in three sets  6:2, 5:7 and 10:8 in a super tie break.

    Czech fencers Jiří Beran, Michal Čupr, Jakub Jurka and Martin Rubeš have won the bronze at the Paris Olympics, securing the country’s first medal at the games. They defeated the French team 42:41 on Friday evening. Coach Tomáš Jurka said it was a historic moment for Czech fencing. Japan and Hungary will play for the gold.

    Police have detained a Czech minor who was allegedly involved in the preparation of a terrorist attack during the Rainbow Pride march in Bratislava two weeks ago. The young man, who was detained in Moravia and taken into custody, was a member of an international group that was allegedly planning to attack participants in the event.  Slovak police uncovered the plot and subsequently, police officers intervened in several European countries, including Czechia and the US, arrested all the suspects. According to Deník N, which reported on the case the arrested Czech is one of the group’s co-founders.

    Czech President Petr Pavel has welcomed the large-scale prisoner swap between Russia and the US in which 24 prisoners were released in total.  Mr. Pavel said the agreement was a positive signal that showed that the two countries were still able to communicate.

    Among those released from Russian prisons was Alsu Kurmasheva, a Russian-American journalist who lived in the Czech Republic and worked for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Kurmasheva, a mother of two, was detained by the Russian authorities on a visit to her parents last October and sentenced to six-and-a-half years in jail for failing to register as a foreign agent.

    In addition, Russian authorities reportedly freed activists and other regime critics such as Vladimir Kara-Murza, Ilya Yashin, and Sasha Skochilenko.

    The Temelín Nuclear Power Plant disconnected its second unit on Friday morning for a few days. The turbine's horizontal alignment will be modified to stabilize its vibrations, which recently caused a temporary shutdown. The planned outage, announced in advance, will not affect electricity supply. The plant’s safety is under close scrutiny  and its owner the ČEZ Group is investing over 4 billion Czech Crowns in modernization this year.
