    The sporting activity of Czechs significantly decreases with age, according to the results of a survey conducted by MultiSport Benefit in cooperation with the NMS Market agency. More than two-thirds of respondents in the 18-34 age group regularly engage in some sporting activity, while in the 55-64 age group only half of respondents do so. Only 3 percent of them engage in some sporting activity daily, less than half of them not even once a month, according to the survey. Just over 1,800 respondents aged 18 to 69 took part in the survey.

    A growing number of Czechs believe that the government is not doing enough to create good living conditions for families with children, according to the results of a poll conducted by the CVVM agency. Respondents criticized the unavailability of flexible working hours and part-time work for parents with children, as well as inadequate benefits and support for single parents. The number of people who criticized the government in this respect has grown steeply over the last four years from 28 percent in 2020 to 54 percent in 2024.

    Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Czechia has provided Kyiv with military aid worth CZK 6.75 billion, Defence Minister Jana Černochová told the Czech Press Agency on Wednesday. The aid includes 62 tanks, 131 infantry fighting vehicles, 26 chemical reconnaissance vehicles, 16 complete special air defence vehicles, 47 cars, 13 howitzers and 12 rocket launchers, and 4.2 million rounds of ammunition. All material donated from the Czech Army's warehouses has always been approved by the government in a classified mode for security reasons. However, the cabinet has now declassified the list at the defence minister’s suggestion.

    To combat hybrid threats, society must be educated, think critically, and resist fear, Czech Deputy Prime Minister Marian Jurečka said in response to a report by the National Center against Organized Crime regarding an increase in hybrid threats in Czechia.  According to the report, the spread of Russian propaganda, aimed at influencing public opinion against further aid to Ukraine, involves local citizens and criminal groups. Marian Jurečka also emphasized the need for active involvement of the whole society in the fight against disinformation.

    The Ministry of Regional Development is addressing the teething problems that plagued the recently-launched digital system for construction permits. Shortly after Monday's launch a technical error in the system prevented users from filing and editing building permit applications for several hours. A spokesman for the ministry said some offices are still reporting problems, but the system's functions have significantly improved compared to Monday. Some of the difficulties may have been caused by overload.

    Heavy holiday traffic and flight delays around Europe have resulted in severe problems with baggage handling at Prague's Václav Havel Airport. According to airport spokeswoman Klára Divíšková travelers may experience delays in unloading baggage on arrival and there have been cases of luggage left behind and sent out on the next flight to the given destination. This is due to frequent flight delays, a shortage of baggage handlers, especially at peak times and air traffic overload. Passengers can fill out a claim form to get their luggage sent to their home or hotel. The airport has also set up a temporary phone line for passengers whose luggage has not arrived.

    New smart weather stations on the ridges of the Jeseníky mountains are tracking the impacts of climate change and providing real-time weather data for tourists. These stations send updates every ten minutes. The data help explain phenomena like vegetation die-off and support climate change mitigation efforts. Tourists can access the latest information online or via QR codes at the Jeseníky information center. The project, involving the startup Agdata Smart and the Silva-Tarouca Research Institute, aims to collect data until 2028 for future climate modeling and nature protection strategies.

    With an average temperature of 21.2 degrees Celsius the month of June was one of the hottest in more than 200 years according to Prague's Klementinum, the oldest monitoring station in the country. Since 1775, there have been only six warmer months of June, only one of which was before 2000, the Czech Hydro-meteorological Institute said on its website. Czechia as a whole also had an exceptionally warm June, with temperatures reaching a national average of 17.9 Celsius.

    Relations between the Czech Republic and Ukraine have reached the level of a strategic partnership, the new Ukrainian ambassador to Czechia, Vasyl Zvaryc, told reporters after presenting his credentials to President Petr Pavel at Prague Castle on Tuesday. Ambassador Zvarych thanked the Czech Republic, its citizens and top officials for their support for Ukraine and expressed the conviction that the allies would celebrate a victory of good over evil. He said he was pleased to see how the Czech Republic was strengthening its position in global politics through its dedication to protecting international law.
