A quarter of Czech start-ups are seriously considering relocating their headquarters abroad, and another six percent have already done so, according to a recent survey of over 200 Czech start-ups. The biggest obstacles to further development, according to the survey, are high taxes, bureaucratic burdens, and labor market issues. The survey was conducted by representatives of the Czech Start-up Association, the state agency CzechInvest, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The results were presented today in Prague by Kamila Zahradníčková, director of Lakmoos AI, who analyzed the findings.

Starting in January, Prague will introduce a new system to regulate shared transportation, which includes a ban on the provision of electric scooters. The city council approved the measure on Monday. Czechia officially assumed the role of Guest of Honour for next year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, taking over from the Philippines at the closing ceremony of this year’s edition. The handover was marked by the presentation of a glass scroll containing an excerpt from Bohumil Hrabal’s Too Loud a Solitude, symbolically launching the Year of Czech Culture.
Throughout 2026, Czech culture, especially literature, will be showcased across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The presentation will carry the motto “A Country on the Shore,” a nod to Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, in which the playwright famously placed Bohemia by the sea.
According to Martin Krafl, head of the Czech Literary Centre, up to 80 Czech authors are expected to represent the country at next year’s book fair.

Several hundred people gathered on Prague’s Hradčanské Square on Sunday to protest against plans for the Motorists’ party to get the environment portfolio in the next government. Demonstrators warned that the party disputes the scientific consensus on climate change and could cause irreparable damage to Czech nature. They urged President Petr Pavel to reject the party’s nominee for environment minister.
ANO leader Andrej Babiš met with environmental activists on Friday in response to a similar appeal, but made it clear that he could not change the agreed division of portfolios in the emerging government.
Motorists’ leader and likely nominee for environment minister, Petr Macinka, dismissed the protest as an attempt to “rewrite the election results.”
