Renowned Czech stage designer Jan Dušek dies at 83
Jan Dušek, a leading figure of Czech stage design, has died at the age of 83. The National Theatre, his home institution, announced his passing on Tuesday. Dušek worked with the theatre for more than four decades, contributing to some 25 productions across drama, opera and ballet. Over his long career, he created sets for roughly 650 productions, often designing costumes as well.
Critics say his artistic signature was unmistakable, pared back yet inventive, shaped by a respect for materials and a keen feel for both the spirit of a text and a director’s specific vision.
