Siniaková wins US Open doubles title with Townsend

Czech tennis player Kateřina Siniaková has won the US Open women’s doubles title with American Taylor Townsend, claiming her 12th Grand Slam title in women’s doubles and her 13th overall, including mixed doubles.

The top seeds beat home pair Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Krueger 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 in today’s final to complete a career Grand Slam together.

The 30-year-old Siniaková has now won the US Open twice. She first lifted the trophy four years ago alongside Barbora Krejčíková, with whom she also won all four Grand Slam tournaments.

Siniaková currently leads the doubles world rankings by 1,915 points ahead of Townsend. She remains in contention to become the first player in history to finish a season as world number one in doubles for the sixth time.

Even Martina Navrátilová, one of the greatest doubles players of all time, never achieved that feat, although she won 31 Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles.
