All Czech tourists evacuated from Omiš fire have returned to accommodation

All Czech tourists evacuated during a major wildfire near Omiš, south of Split, have been able to return to their accommodation, Czech Consul in Split Štěpán Šantrůček said on Saturday. Around 300 Czech tourists were among more than 2,000 people evacuated from the area due to a raging wildfire, which is now under control. It was described as one of the worst in Croatia’s history. One woman died and more than 30 people were injured, while a large number of homes were destroyed.

Several Czech tourists required minor medical treatment, but none suffered serious injuries, Šantrůček said.

Jan Papež, head of the Association of Travel Agencies, advised Czechs planning to travel to Croatia to check the latest situation and follow instructions from the authorities. Those travelling with a tour operator should contact the agency, which can provide information and arrange an alternative if necessary.
