PM Fiala criticizes EDF for interfering in Czech security interests

Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Civic Democratic Party) has accused the French energy firm EDF of crossing the line by challenging the outcome of the tender for new units at the Dukovany nuclear power plant. Speaking during the first campaign debate of the Spolu coalition in Jihlava, Fiala said EDF’s legal move to block the contract with South Korea’s KHNP harms Czech national and security interests. Although EDF’s complaint led a regional court to halt the signing of the deal, Fiala insisted the government remains committed to finalizing the project. He emphasized that national security must take precedence over other policy issues as the country approaches October's parliamentary elections.
