Third lowest number of new Covid cases recorded this year but positivity rate increases
The Czech Republic registered 2,246 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, which is the third lowest number this year, according to the Ministry of Health data. The weekly incidence number has also slightly decreased to 465 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
However, labs in the country only conducted around 9,000 tests on Sunday, which is roughly a third less than on the same day of the previous week. The positivity rate among people who tested as a precaution exceeded 24 percent, compared to 16 percent last week.
Over 3.7 million people in the Czech Republic contracted the virus since the pandemic hit the country in March 2020 and over 39,563 of them died of Covid related complications. There are currently 1,584 people hospitalised with covid.
