Czech Republic passes 1 million known Covid cases mark
The number of recorded Covid-19 cases in the Czech Republic now exceeds one million. As of Wednesday morning, some 1,003,657 cases had been confirmed since the virus was first registered in the country on March 1 last year. The population of the Czech Republic is 10.7 million.
Just over 9,000 new cases were recorded on Tuesday, roughly the same number as for the same day last week. Some 29.1 percent of tests were positive, which was also similar to the previous Tuesday.
Over 5,800 people are hospitalised with the coronavirus. The government say they will not ease current tight restrictions until that figure falls to between 3,000 and 4,000.
