More than 1.74 million coronavirus cases and 24,000 related deaths were registered in the Czech Republic in 2021. More than 8 in 10 people infected were unvaccinated.

Ministry of Health data show about 111,000 Covid-19 patients were treated in hospital. Of those who ended up in intensive care units, about 87 percent were unvaccinated.

November saw more than 400,000 confirmed infections and December about 303,000 cases, but the data for that month are incomplete.

The third-highest caseload was in March, at just over 300,000, while in January and February more than 250,000 infections were confirmed. The summer months saw about 6,000 cases on average.
