MP and government climate policy envoy Filip Turek (Motorists) says he is not considering running for Czech president in 2028. Speaking on CNN Prima News, Turek said he was “definitely” not planning a presidential bid and accused President Petr Pavel and his team of already campaigning for re-election. Former defence minister Jana Černochová (Civic Demopcratic Party), meanwhile, expressed her continued support for Pavel. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO), who lost to Pavel in the 2023 presidential election, has also ruled out another bid. Pavel has said he is prepared to seek a second term if no suitable alternative emerges.

The Czech co-produced film Fallen Fruit has won the Crystal Globe at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The debut feature by Myanmar director Aung Phyoe explores queer desire and the search for intimacy in contemporary Myanmar, where love between women remains socially unacceptable. The festival's top prize comes with 25,000 dollars. French actress Juliette Binoche received a Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema, while Magda Vášáryová and Jeffrey Wright received festival president's awards. The audience prize went to Helena Třeštíková's documentary about Czech singer Bára Basiková.

Linda Nosková has won her first Grand Slam title after defeating fellow Czech Karolína Muchová 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in a dramatic Wimbledon final.The 21-year-old ninth seed needed two hours and 27 minutes to secure the biggest victory of her career on Centre Court. She finally converted her sixth match point after letting five opportunities slip away in the second set. Nosková dominated the opening stages, serving confidently and taking the first set 6-2. She appeared to be heading for a straightforward victory when she led 5-2 in the second.

But Muchová fought back spectacularly. Nosková missed three match points at 5-2 and two more later in the set, allowing her 29-year-old compatriot to win five consecutive games and take the set 7-5.Nosková recovered after a short break and saved three break points in the opening game of the deciding set. She then broke Muchová's serve and held on to the advantage until the end. After converting her sixth match point, Nosková fell to the grass with her hands covering her face.

Nosková is the third Czech woman to win Wimbledon in the past four editions, following Markéta Vondroušová in 2023 and Barbora Krejčíková in 2024. She joins a distinguished list of Czech Wimbledon champions that also includes Jana Novotná and two-time winner Petra Kvitová. The final was the first Grand Slam singles title match between two Czech women in the professional era. The last Grand Slam final between two players representing Czechoslovakia was the 1989 Australian Open, when Ivan Lendl defeated Miloslav Mečíř.

Nosková has now won 12 of her last 13 matches and will rise to a career-high seventh place in the world rankings. Muchová's ten-match winning streak came to an end, and she remains without a Grand Slam title after also losing the 2023 French Open final. Despite the defeat, she is set to reach a career-high world number six. The historic final was watched from the Royal Box by tennis legends including Billie Jean King, Martina Navrátilová, Jan Kodeš and Petra Kvitová, as well as Catherine, Princess of Wales.

President Petr Pavel (independent) has warned that plans to create a central state building authority could make construction permitting slower rather than faster. The lower house approved a government amendment on Friday aimed at simplifying the process by bringing permitting under a single authority. Pavel said it was unrealistic to expect all of the roughly 7,000 officials currently involved in building procedures to join the new system. An understaffed authority could significantly prolong the process, he warned. Czechia currently has 638 building offices; the reform envisages 205 regional branches and 14 regional development offices.
