The use of electronic resources and devices in education helps students deepen their interest in learning and collaborate effectively on assigned tasks. According to the international TALIS 2024 survey, more than 80 percent of Czech teachers agree with this. About three-quarters of teachers also agreed that using these resources and devices helps students improve their academic performance. At the same time, less than half of teachers believe that electronic resources and tools distract students while learning.

Summer time ends this Sunday as Central European Time resumes. At 03:00 the clocks will move back to 02:00, making the night an hour longer. Long-distance night trains and buses will wait one hour at stations to match the new timetable; Czech Railways, Leo Express and RegioJet all have services affected. Winter time will remain in place until the last Sunday of March. An EU plan to scrap seasonal clock changes stalled after states failed to agree which time to keep year-round. Road-safety expert Roman Budský of Platforma VIZE 0 warns earlier dusk increases risks for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

Outgoing Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Civic Democrats, ODS) said it is essential to support Ukraine’s ability to hit Russia’s energy network and military-industrial complex deep inside its territory. He spoke after joining the so-called coalition of the willing meeting via video link. Fiala noted there was consensus that the goal should be a ceasefire along the current front line, but at the same time stressed the need to block financing of Russia’s war machine, mainly through pressure on its energy sector. He welcomed new U.S. sanctions on Russian oil companies as an important step to increase pressure on Moscow.

President Petr Pavel will present state decorations to 48 people this year, eight fewer than in 2023. The ceremony will take place on 28 October in Prague Castle’s Vladislav Hall to mark Czechoslovakia’s Independence Day. According to the head of the Presidential Office, Milan Vašina, the Castle received around 600 nominations, about ten percent more than last year. The list of honorees remains secret until the event. Parliamentary parties will select which of their members attend. The ANO movement will have 12 seats, ODS four, and other parties between two and three.
