    Blind teenage swimmer David Kratochvíl completed his medal tally at the Paralympic Games in Paris, after winning bronze in the 200 positional race on Tuesday. It is the 16-year-old’s third medal in his fourth start at the Games.

    On Friday he won Czechia’s first gold in the 400m breaststroke and on Sunday silver in the 100 mark. Kratochvíl is set to appear in two more races, the 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly.

    The Czech government will today discuss nearly half a billion CZK in aid for fruit growers whose crops were damaged by spring frosts, reducing this year's harvest by up to 74% compared to last year. The aid package includes 375 million CZK from the EU budget and an additional 100 million CZK from Czech sources. Ministers will also consider increasing the state's payments for health insurance for children, seniors, and the unemployed, with a proposed total of 154.6 billion CZK next year. The monthly payment per person will rise to 2,127 CZK, reflecting inflation. Additionally, the government will examine the creation of a Public Health Council to address health issues such as obesity and heart disease.

    Record-high temperatures for the month of September were registered on Tuesday at 33 measuring stations across Czechia keeping record for at least 30 years, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has announced. Over 140 stations saw a new record for September 3.

    The warmest temperature, 35.1 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Strážnice in south Moravia. Another seven stations, all of them in southern or central Moravia, saw temperatures exceeding 34 degrees, all in southern and central Moravia.

    European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has already decided on the key positions in her new team, Die Welt reported on Tuesday, citing senior EU diplomats and European Commission insiders. According to the German daily, the energy portfolio will go to Czech Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Síkela. Die Welt also said that von der Leyen could announce the composition of the new Commission as early as this week.

    Police officers are investigating a threatening e-mail from an anonymous sender alleging that explosives are stored in hundreds of schools across Czechia. The threatening email was sent to schools on Tuesday, police spokesman Ondřej Moravčík confirmed.

    Police said on social media that they had no reason to believe that anyone was at risk and have not issued an evacuation order. However, some schools have already decided to close for the day.

    The National Headquarters for Countering Terrorism, Extremism and Cybercrime, among others, is involved in identifying those behind the threat.

    A student at an elementary school in the west Bohemian town of Domažlice attacked classmates with a knife on Tuesday, injuring two of them.

    The children, whose injuries were not life-threatening, were treated in hospital and released to home care, police reported on the X network. The suspect, who is reportedly a 13-year-old girl, was arrested shortly after the incident.

    According to the police, crisis interventionists provided psychoogical help on the spot to around twenty children.

    The Prague municipal court has once again found the former head of the Czech Football Association, Miroslav Pelta, guilty of abuse of sports subsidies and sent him to 5.5 years in jail. Pelta was also given a five million-crown fine and a five-year ban on working in statutory bodies, including sports associations and clubs. He has repeatedly appealed the verdict.

    The former deputy education minister Simona Kratochvílová, who was tried as an accomplice, received a six-year jail sentence, a six-year ban on working in statutory bodies and a two-million crown fine. The verdicts are not legally binding and may be appealed.

    Prague’s Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague has been included on the list of the 15 best film schools in the world in the current issue of The Hollywood Reporter film magazine. The French La Fémis, the Polish Lodz Film School and the Italian Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia also made the list.

    The US weekly described FAMU as one of Europe’s top-tier film schools, which offers one-year intensive programs and two and three year master’s degrees in directing, cinematography and editing, including accredited programs in English.

    Czech tennis player Karolína Muchová has advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open after defeating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini on Monday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

    The Czech world No. 52, who last year was a semi-finalist at the US Open and a finalist at Roland Garros, took an hour and nine minutes to win the match 6-3, 6-3.

    Muchová is set to face Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
