Two new cars for the Petřín funicular, delivered from Switzerland in late March, were placed at stations along the reconstructed line in Prague on Wednesday. Further installation of technology and final adjustments will follow, before test runs without passengers begin, scheduled to last until the end of June. Passenger service is expected to resume in September, pending final operational approval.
The new cars were produced by the Doppelmayr/Garaventa Group based on a design by Czech studio Anna Marešová designers. Each car can accommodate up to 120 passengers, with greater comfort for wheelchair users and passengers with prams. Its panoramic windows will offer spectacular views of Prague’s skyline from Petrin Hill.

Several hundred students gathered for a protest march in Prague on Wednesday to express support for public service media. The protest was organized by students associated with the “Hands off our Media" initiative in response to a proposed law that would change the funding model of Czech Radio and Czech Television, a move they say could significantly affect the broadcasters’ operations.
Demonstrations have also been taking place in other cities across the country.
According to the organizers, the students are calling on the government to withdraw the draft legislation and preserve the current system of television and radio license fees, which they argue ensures stable and predictable funding for public service media.

The Senate is set to debate a government-proposed bill which would enable regulating fuel prices through government decrees. The proposed legislation is intended to replace the current system of price directives issued by the Finance Ministry on a daily basis in connection with the Middle East crisis.
The draft legislation is unlikely to pass, as Senate committees have recommended its rejection, though amendments remain possible. In either case, the Chamber of Deputies will have to take a fresh vote on the bill, likely on Friday. The ruling coalition has a majority in the lower chamber and is in a position to override the Senate's reservations.

Trade unions at Czech Radio and Czech Television have declared an open-ended strike alert in protest against a planned government bill on public service media. The time and form of the protest is still being considered.
The government-proposed legislation would shift the funding of public service media from license fees to the state budget. Czech Radio’s management has criticized it as “incomplete, hastily prepared and, in some provisions, even hostile”. It argues that the proposed level of funding from the state budget would significantly limit the broadcaster’s activities and undermine its independence.
The civic group Million Moments for Democracy has launched a petition in support of the country’s public broadcasters. According to the group, the government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš intends to dismantle, without public debate, the long-standing funding system that has ensured the independence of public service media for decades.
The initiative gathered more than 3,800 signatures within hours, with a protest march planned in Prague in early May.
