President Pavel warns against political influence over public media

Czech President Petr Pavel has stressed the importance of closely monitoring government steps as it prepares new legislation on public service media. Speaking to university students in Pardubice, Pavel warned that public broadcasters must not become dependent on the will of the government. He emphasized that the Czech Republic should adopt a model ensuring maximum independence alongside stable, medium-term funding. Pavel also pointed to developments in Hungary and Slovakia, saying they should serve as a strong warning for the Czech Republic.
