Czech President Petr Pavel is the most trusted foreign politician in Slovakia, suggests a new survey conducted by the polling agency Focus for Slovak TV Markíza released on Sunday. The Czech head of state received the highest credit rating, having won the trust of 38 percent of respondents.
Pavel is followed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán with 36 percent and French President Emmanuel Macron with 35 percent. The fourth most trusted politician for Slovaks is European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

A commemorative plaque for British Royal Airforce airman Václav Leitensdorfer, a member of the 311th Czechoslovak Bomber Squadron, was unveiled in his hometown of Rovensko pod Troskami in north Bohemia on Sunday. During World War II he served as a deck gunner of the RAF and took part in 53 operational flights.
He was born in Rovensko in November 1913 and died in May 1984 in Leicester, England. The memorial plaque is placed near the local church of St. Wenceslas, since Leitensdorfer’s birth house no longer stands in Rovensko.

Czech President Petr Pavel extended his condolences to the Moroccan King Muhammad VI in the wake of the deadly earthquake in the North African country that killed over 2,000 people and left over 2,000 others injured. The Czech head of state also praised the dedication and bravery of the local rescuers.
A number of other Czech political leaders, including Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský and the head of the opposition ANO movement Andrej Babiš have expressed their sympathy with the families of the victims on the social network X. Mr. Fiala wrote that Czechia was ready to send necessary aid to Morocco.

Temperature records for September 9 fell at nine monitoring stations around Czechia on Saturday. The highest temperature for that day was registered in Prague’s district of Komořany, where it reached 30.4 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures of around 30 degrees are expected to last until Tuesday. The second part of the work week is expected to be overcast and cooler, but the following weekend will see clear skies again with temperatures reaching 27 degrees Celsius.

The Czech-German Fund for the Future is the most important actor in connecting Czech and German civil society, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Saturday on the occasion of hosting the annual Citizen’s Festival at his residence in Berlin.
The Czech-German Fund, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, was a special guest at this year’s Bürgerfest, celebrating civil society and voluntary work, while Czechia, along with the German state of Thuringia, has been chosen as one of the partner countries.
According to the German head of state, the Czech-German Declaration of 1997 was the key to friendship and good neighbourliness between the two nations, and the Czech-German Future Fund is the child of the Declaration.

Polish director Agnieszka Holland won a special jury award at the Venice Film Festival for her latest feature film Green Border, made in coproduction with Czechia. The drama dealing with the plight of refugees caught on the border between Belarus and Poland, also received several non-statutory awards.
Czech film Photophobia by Ivan Ostrochovský and Pavol Pekarčík shot last year in war-torn Ukraine, presented in the festival’s independent sidebar Giornate degli Autori, was awarded the Europa Cinemas Label. Both films were also supported by the Czech Film Fund.

More than 200 people protested on Saturday afternoon in Prague against the planned dismantling of the historic Vyšehrad railway bridge spanning the Vltava River.
People formed a chain stretched across the entire length of the bridge's southern footbridge in order to point out the cultural and symbolic value.
The event was organised by the organisation Nebourat or Do Not Demolish, which previously initiated a petition against dismantling the bridge signed by some 17,500 people.
Earlier this year, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre asked the Czech authorities not to go ahead with the plans to demolish and replace the bridge.

Czech firefighters are ready to immediately send a special team to earthquake-hit Morocco to search through the rubble, they wrote on the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter on Saturday, adding that they were waiting for an official request.
The Czech Fire and Rescue Service is sending two liaison officers to Morocco this evening to agree on the possible deployment of the urban search and rescue specialists in the affected area, following an agreement with Interior Minister Vít Rakušan and Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský.
The special team has been helping, for example, in Turkey and Syria following the devastating earthquakes this winter.
