Majority state-owned Czech energy giant ČEZ will build a large pumped-storage hydropower plant at the Orlík reservoir in Central Bohemia, creating the country's fourth facility of its kind. The project is part of a CZK 8 billion modernisation of the existing power station and is due for completion in 2033. Once upgraded, the plant will be able to pump water from the lower Kamýk reservoir back to Orlík, storing up to 750 MWh of electricity—enough to cover the daily electricity consumption of around 80,000 Czech households. Construction is expected to begin next year.

Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna (Freedom and Direct Democracy Party) is seeking to increase Czech defence spending to 2% of GDP next year, equivalent to CZK 190 billion. According to Czech Television, the proposal would raise the ministry's budget by CZK 35 billion compared with this year. The Defence Ministry is currently operating with CZK 154.8 billion, or just under 1.8% of GDP. NATO members have pledged to spend at least 2% of GDP on defence, while last year's alliance summit also endorsed a long-term goal of increasing overall defence and security spending to 5% of GDP within ten years.

An international panel of experts has concluded that Prague's historic railway bridge beneath Vyšehrad can be restored and remain in service for at least another 100 years. Commissioned by the National Heritage Institute, the group voted 8–1 in favour of repairing rather than replacing the steel structure. The experts recommend dismantling the bridge during restoration, replacing or reinforcing damaged components and maintaining it regularly with renewed anti-corrosion protection. To increase rail capacity, they suggest building a separate third track alongside the existing bridge while preserving the original historic structure.

Czechia has the lowest standard value-added tax (VAT) rate among the four Visegrad countries, according to an analysis by consultancy Forvis Mazars. The country's standard VAT rate is 21%, compared with 23% in Poland and Slovakia and 27% in Hungary. However, Czechia's reduced VAT rate of 12% is among the highest in the region. The analysis says neighbouring countries apply several lower reduced rates to a broader range of essential goods and services. VAT is the Czech state's largest source of tax revenue, generating CZK 623.1 billion last year.

Czech authorities are investigating allegations that some Filipino workers recruited to Czechia were forced to sign agreements requiring them to stay with their employer for two years or pay a CZK 100,000 penalty if they left early. The practice was uncovered by a Czech Radio investigation and reportedly involved workers hired through recruitment agencies under the government's labour migration programme. The State Labour Inspection Office said such arrangements could amount to labour exploitation, while the Ministry of Labour has referred the case to labour inspectors and police. Czechia is seeking to recruit more Filipino workers to help address labour shortages, particularly in healthcare and social services.

The Czech Republic remains committed to contributing troops to the defence of NATO's Eastern flank, Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna said on Monday following talks with his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, in Berlin.
Zůna's comments came in response to a report by Czech Radio’s website iRozhlas.cz, which said Prague does not intend to maintain its current level of military deployment on NATO's eastern border and plans to reduce by around one-fifth the maximum number of troops available for alliance missions over the next two years.
According to iRozhlas.cz, citing a non-public Defence Ministry document, the government plans to increase the number of troops available for NATO operations overall, while also strengthening the European Union Battlegroup. The proposed changes would nevertheless reduce the ceiling for Czech troop deployments on the alliance's Eastern flank.

Czech coalition lawmakers have proposed amendments to conflict-of-interest legislation that critics say could allow companies linked to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to continue receiving public subsidies and contracts, regardless of whether the prime minister has fully resolved concerns over conflicts of interest.
If adopted, the amendment would also reportedly prevent the retrospective recovery of subsidies previously paid to the Agrofert concern he is linked with.
Under current rules, companies that are more than 25 percent owned by a public office holder are barred from receiving state subsidies and participating in public procurement tenders. The proposed amendment would narrow those restrictions, applying them only to officials who directly head the authority responsible for awarding the subsidies or contracts.
The proposal comes as Czech authorities and the European Commission continue to examine allegations of conflicts of interest involving Babiš.

Germany will contribute a further €300 million ($345 million) to the Czech-led ammunition initiative for Ukraine, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said during a meeting with his Czech counterpart, Jaromír Zůna.
According to Pistorius, the funding will be enough to purchase around 50,000 rounds of ammunition for Ukraine.
Pistorius called the Czech ammunition initiative an important tool for supporting Ukraine as it continues to defend itself against Russia’s invasion for a fifth year, and thanked Prague for maintaining the program.
The Czech Republic launched the initiative in 2024 to help Ukraine counter Russia’s artillery advantage on the battlefield.
