Tuesday sees most new Covid cases since mid-December

Some 12,366 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in the Czech Republic on Tuesday. This was a rise of around one-fifth on the same day last week and the highest figure seen in around a month. There were 2,216 people in hospital with the coronavirus, of whom around 400 were in a serious condition.

The relatively contagious Omicron variant is now dominant in the Czech Republic and officials have warned of up to 50,000 new Covid cases a day and 7,000 people in hospital.
