Again Czech infections up but patients down

Some 9,210 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the Czech Republic on Saturday. This was the biggest one-day jump seen on a weekend since early December and an increase of 133 percent on the previous Saturday.

By contrast, the number of people in hospital with the coronavirus continued a steady decline and stood at 1,599 on Saturday, the lowest figure since October 30 last year.

With the relatively contagious Omicron variant dominant in the Czech Republic, officials expect the latest Covid wave to peak in the coming weeks.
