Townsend replaces Siniaková as world No. 1 in tennis doubles
Czech tennis player Kateřina Siniaková has lost her position as the world’s top-ranked doubles player to her American partner Taylor Townsend. The 29-year-old from Chicago climbed to No. 1 following her title win in Washington alongside China’s Zhang Shuai. However, the change may be short-lived — Siniaková is expected to reclaim the top spot next week. She had held the ranking since last September and for a total of 161 weeks, and skipped the U.S. tournaments to play in Prague, where she lost in the singles quarterfinals. She’s set to return to doubles at the US Open. In singles, Marie Bouzková jumped eight spots to 39th after winning in Prague, while 18-year-old Tereza Valentová entered the top 100 for the first time.
