Tatra to take part in US tender for supply of hundreds of trucks

Czech truck maker Tatra Koprivnice is to take part in a public tender in the United States in November for the supply of several hundred trucks, and if successful, it will sign a four-year contract. Tatra board chairman Milota Srkal said one other company was invited to take part in the tender.

The traditional Czech heavy truck manufacturer, Tatra, is owned by the US company SDC International, a subsidiary of the Terex Corporation. The Americans acquired Tatra last November when the Czech government decided to sell its majority stake in the troubled company.

Although Tatra managed to sell more vehicles this year than in 2001, it fell into the red due to the unfavourable exchange rate of the Czech crown to the US dollar. Its main markets include Russia, China, India and some Arab countries. Earlier this year, Tatra was awarded a contract by the Indian government for the supply of more than a thousand vehicles for the army.
