Scholz in Prague: EU should take in several states including Ukraine

Speaking in Prague on Monday, the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, said he was in favour of Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Western Balkan states joining the European Union in future. In an address to students, Mr. Scholz said that the further enlargement of the EU would help transition the bloc to a majority voting system.

The German leader also proposed the creation of a new air defence system in Europe.

On his one-day visit Mr. Scholz is also due to hold talks with his Czech counterpart, Petr Fiala.
