President Pavel to appoint Babiš prime minister on Tuesday, 9 December
President Petr Pavel will appoint ANO leader Andrej Babiš prime minister on Tuesday, December 9. He announced the decision on X, saying he appreciated that Babiš had kept his promise to publicly resolve his conflict of interest. According to the president’s office, Pavel sees Babiš’s chosen solution as a public commitment — not only to him, but above all to the Czech public.
Babiš said on Thursday night that he will give up ownership of Agrofert and will not take it back even after leaving politics. The company would return to his children only after his death.
The move was welcomed by leaders of the emerging coalition, Petr Macinka of Motorists and Tomio Okamura of SPD. Future opposition parties also reacted positively, but stressed that Babiš’s commitments will need close monitoring.
